Prague once again proves its place among the world's congress elite
29. 05. 2025
Prague has again this year ranked among the most desirable congress destinations in the world. According to the International Congress Association's ICCA ranking for 2024, it ranked fifth worldwide and fourth in Europe, ahead of Paris, Madrid and London.
This success of Prague has a significant economic impact. Congress tourism brings professionals, innovation and prestige to the city, as well as economic revenue. In 2024, Prague hosted more than 5,100 events and welcomed over 804,000 delegates from all over the world, who spent an average of 2.3 days here. Spending by congress visitors is up to three times higher than spending by ordinary tourists. The results of the current ICCA ranking show that the Czech Republic as a whole ranks among the world's leading congress destinations - it took 21st place overall. In addition to Prague, other cities are also on the radar of organisers of professional and incentive events. Brno, for example, improved by more than 30 places year-on-year and moved up to 112th position. This development confirms the growing interest in non-Prague destinations and supports the trend of an even distribution of tourism across regions.
The greatest interest in Prague congresses is shown by organisers from the USA, followed by the UK, Germany and France. Popular topics include medicine, economics, finance and IT.
According to experts, congresses contribute not only to the city's economy, but also to the dissemination of know-how and the development of science, research and business. Thanks to them, Prague is profiling itself as an innovation centre of Central Europe. Congresses increase the prestige of the city, promote its image as a premium destination and bring revenue to hotels, restaurants and cultural institutions. Each participant also contributes through the city's sojourn tax, the increase of which, according to city officials, could bring up to CZK 1.5 billion a year to support culture and infrastructure development.
Prague's congress industry also has ambitious plans for the future - the Prague Congress Centre plans to invest in a new multifunctional exhibition hall to expand the centre's capacity and strengthen its competitiveness.
Prague thus continues to be a magnet for world congresses and professional events and helps to raise the prestige of the entire Czech Republic on the international scene.
